2020 Season info

Update on Season 7/23/2020

Schedule

Decisions regarding MMSD athletics are in the process of being finalized in response to the Big 8 decision and WIAA plans. The status, update, and details will be released Wednesday, July 29, via the District Athletic Virtual Kickoff Meeting on YouTube. Additional guidance related to all activities and facility use will also be shared next week.

In the short-term, however, MMSD will not be offering fall sport specific virtual coaching during the traditional fall dates as we will look to provide opportunities in the spring via whatever means are available to us, based on both WIAA guidance for fall sports and reflective of our schooling model and public health guidance at those times. In the meantime, general fitness, strength, mental health, academic, and social emotional connection supports will be offered by the coaches and athletic department throughout the year to all students and student-athletes.
Do your online permissions early.  This will let you know if you need a physical or an alternate year card. Both athlete and parent/guardian need to fill out the online permissions. Make sure to hand in your physical card, do your online permissions and get your blue card from the athletic directors office.  If you do not have a blue card you will not be able to participate in tryouts/practice.  There are no exceptions to this rule.
 Important Links:
  • Athletic Permissions (online) - Instructions for Online Forms click here
  • WIAA Physical Card (usually 9th/11th Graders), Alternate Year Athletic Card (usually 10th/12th Graders)
  • WIAA Physical Extension Form (This allows students who already have a physical on file with the school, but are unable to schedule a new physical due to the pandemic, to use that physical for a third year.  Incoming freshmen are not allowed to use this, they would still need a physical)
  • Emergency Medical Information (turned in to coach on first day of practice)
Athletes are encouraged to submit all forms to the Athletic Office and complete all Permissions at least a week prior to the start of their sport.

What to expect:

Tryouts take place the first three days of practice.  They are intentionally some of the toughest practices of the season.  Our goal is to test our athletes so that we can place them at the appropriate level.  We will test for fitness, conditioning, and volleyball specific skills.  Players will be notified on Wednesday, August 19 what team they have made to start the year.  Going to Open Gyms during the summer will help you refine your skills, and that will improve your odds of making Varsity.

What to bring:

  • Blue Card
  • Positive attitude
  • Water Bottle
  • Knee Pads
  • T-shirt
  • Shorts
